“I have no desire to filter through your negativity, any more than you want a fulltime keeper monitoring your every thought. You behave yourself and we will have minimal ramifications.”

Ramifications? Even the word was an insult.

“I'm sorry, did I say ramifications? How irresponsible of me, I do beg your pardon…” The voice quipped. “I meant excrescence*. Perhaps a few cosmetic modifications to your newly designed body are in order to make you less high and mighty. You might think that you are the bee’s knees, Libby, but I can guarantee you that I was around during your birth, and I am not someone to mess with.”

I felt the Dragon’s candor, which was evident in her every word. I have never experienced true fear, even then I don’t believe I had any clue what it was to truly be afraid. However, I knew better than to press my luck.

I sent out my thoughts, searching for my friend’s presence, but I found nothing. I was alone with this new mind. And in realizing that, it dawned on me that I had never felt so alone.
